(Shot of Wonder #25) Beyond NEW RESEARCH: Creativity is More than a Pillar of Health

There's more to creative activity than even the new research shows.

At last the general conversation in science and psychology is verifying what we might have sensed: That creative activity is essential to our health and flourishing.

For over 15 years, one wonder-tracking scientist - Daisy Fancourt, a professor of psychobiology and epidemiology at University College London - has been tracking creativity’s effects on our health - specifically engaging the arts.

But what most interests me is not only that creative activity helps regulate stress or support cognitive health over time - although the research is compelling.

I am more curious how creativity also appears to change how we move through our days.

This Shot of Wonder might especially resonate if:

  • your workdays have started to feel efficient but flat

  • you’ve been solving problems without feeling much aliveness in the process

  • you keep postponing creative acts because they don’t seem “productive” enough

  • you miss the feeling of making, shaping, sketching, writing, designing, building, or imagining

  • you sense that restoring creativity might help you think more clearly and move through life differently

In this Shot of Wonder, I address this seminal research and also suggest something else that might be missed. I also provide relevant resources such as book and studies, too.
